There are still 6 weeks to get involved in the 2025 Festival. Schools are urged to sign up as soon as possible to take advantage of as many of our free events, activities, projects and resources as possible.
We are breaking all previous Festival records, with 65,500 children and young people from 339 schools registered to take part so far and bookings still open for many events and activities. Many of our activities have unlimited participation and all are free to schools across the North East, with some online events open to UK schools.

The Festival aims to:
- increase cultural awareness, nurture curiosity and empower children and young people to embrace cultural and linguistic diversity
- promote the value of speaking languages and language learning for children and young people as global citizens
- inspire children to value their home languages and take up and/or progress with language learning at home, in their communities and school
- broaden horizons and widen opportunities for their education and career choices and their future lives in an increasingly interconnected world
- build connections between schools and universities and local, regional and national organisations who support languages and intercultural awareness
