31 teachers, including three students intending to pursue a career in Spanish language teaching attended the Spanish Teachers’ Day in Newcastle in March. This year’s event included practical workshops, creative approaches to teaching and assessment, AI applications in the Spanish teaching classroom, networking opportunities, a tasting of products from Castilla y León and a prize draw for attendees.
It was organised by the Spanish Embassy Education Department, Newcastle University’s School of Modern Languages (Spanish) and with the participation of colleagues from Castilla y León.
The event was very successful and fully met its objectives. Initiatives such as this are particularly valuable for the professional development of teachers. We would also like to express our gratitude for the awards presented to the three students and to one of the speakers, which were undoubtedly a well-deserved recognition of their work and commitment. Events of this kind also foster the creation of professional networks and encourage the promotion of Spanish beyond secondary education.
Furthermore, this year, for the first time, school teachers were invited to present papers, an initiative which was very well received by attendees.
