Join Futbol Lingo for these interactive, in person, half day sessions at Sports Central, Northumbria University in Newcastle. Pupils will engage in a football themed motivational talk, practical classroom language activity and a fun footballing activity. They will gain an understanding of the importance of speaking different languages and how impactful they can be in the football industry and the range of careers in the sector.

Registration is required for schools and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Who is it for?

  • Middle and Secondary Schools and their KS3-5 pupils enrolled in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
  • These workshops are only open to schools in Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead and Durham
  • Knowledge of some MFL preferred, but not necessary. Languages used in the session may include French, German and Spanish.

When will it happen?

  • There are two half day sessions at 9.30am-12pm and 1.00-3.30pm on Tuesday 31st March, including a 30 minute motivational talk and two 55 minute workshops. Schools can select which session they would like to attend and we will try to accommodate preferences. BOTH SESSIONS ARE FULLY BOOKED
  • Each session lasts 2.5 hours and will be held at Sports Central, Northumbria University in Newcastle

What is the activity?

Each half day workshop consists of three football themed activities to inspire pupils to understand the range of career options that open up when you have a knowledge of different languages.

Motivational Talk: Our motivational talk will include stories and experiences from around the globe, involving languages and football and to inform pupils about the importance of being able to speak them in this industry.

Practical Classroom Workshop: You are on the hosting panel for your country. You need to convince the UEFA or CAF board why your country should host, talking about facilities, future plans and the benefits for the country. Target languages would be either French, Spanish or German.

Practical Football Workshop: Our practical football sessions are a fun way to get the pupils to learn, revise and use key football phrases and terms in the target language, whilst playing the beautiful game. Pupils will be presented with words and phrases, having to memorise and later recall them. Note that pupils will need appropriate clothing for physical activity.

The sessions are being hosted at Sports Central, Northumbria University, to provide pupils with an on campus experience, in addition to the interactive workshops and motivational talk.
