Festival 2025 open for registrations!

This week we are publicly launching Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages 2025.

Discover a world of language, culture, and creativity! Designed to spark curiosity and inspire young minds, our festival offers an exciting array of FREE activities, events and resources between January and March 2025.

Schools, community schools and groups can sign up for opportunities for children and young people across the North East (Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland, and Durham).

UK schools outside the North East can join in with selected events and all webinars and schools outside the UK can join the Weaving Friendship international project.

Join us to celebrate and inspire a future generation of linguists and global citizens!

Festival links

International School Award: Festival participation automatically qualifies schools for British Council’s International School Award Foundation Certificate, without schools having to apply online.

Participating in a range of Festival activities can also help schools to progress through the International School Award levels and apply for Intermediate Level, Accreditation or Reaccreditation. This supports efforts to embed internationalism across school communities and maximise benefits for pupils. Click here to find out more.

Schools of Sanctuary: There are lots of activities within the Festival programme that can help support Schools of Sanctuary or those working towards the award.

Choose a range of Festival activities, events and resources to celebrate multiculturalism and multilingualism in your school.

Embrace the languages, cultures and traditions of all your pupils, to build a better, kinder society for all

Festival partners

This year we have been supported with funding from the North East Combined Authority. We are also grateful to the many local, regional, national partners and international partners who make the Festival possible, by providing events, activities and resources free of charge.
