Kittiwake Trust Multilingual Library in Gateshead is offering FREE activities as part of this year’s Festival: 10 sessions of fun and engaging activities for North East primary schools and an activity celebrating bread, languages and cultures for adults from our diverse communities.
These are a wonderful way to celebrate diverse cultures, languages and backgrounds and to get to know the Multilingual Library, a Library of Sanctuary. We are grateful to Amina Marix Evans for organising these activities and offering them to partners and to partners at The Comfrey Project and BALTIC.
North East primary schools can enjoy a library tour, with games, quizzes and stories using their many books, in many languages.
10-12 or 12.30-14.30
5th, 7th, 12th, 14th or 19th March
Primary schools can book one of 10 free sessions available in March (one school and up to 30 pupils per session): Please let us know if any of your children have mobility issues or other health issues when you book.

All activities will take place at Kittiwake Trust Multilingual Library, 11 High West Street (formerly The Gloucester) Gateshead NE8 1EJ. Parking for cars and minibuses is available.
Breaking Bread: A community celebration of breads, cultures and languages of the world
2-4pm on 21st March
Adults can book free places for this celebratory event. We will be exchanging stories and songs from different countries and tasting breads of the world and their names. You will also help in creating an artwork for the Library of Sanctuary
This event is delivered in partnership with The Comfrey Project and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The Multilingual Library is an independent library and a Library of Sanctuary, run by the Kittiwake Trust. It is a welcoming community space and has over 120 languages and dialects represented and around 20,000 books. Moving from its previous location in Newcastle, the Library has reopened at their new location in Gateshead, opposite the register office of the Civic Centre. The building is the former Gloucester pub and is at 11 High West Street, NE8 1EH.
