Three young people from North East schools have been named as winners of the ‘Where can languages take you?’ poster competition and have won vouchers. Pupils aged 7-18 in North East schools were invited to create a compelling poster which explained to other learners why it is important to learn another language.
846 entries from 19 schools were received in three categories for Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 pupils for the competition, which was organised for the Festival by Durham County Council’s International team. All the children and young people who entered received certificates of commendation. The competition was one of a range of activities encouraging young people to recognise the importance of language learning for their lives and careers (click here for more information).
Congratulations to the winners:
- Key Stage 1 winner: Freya aged 7 – Holystone Primary School, North Tyneside
- Key Stage 2 winner: Anika aged 13 – Royal Grammar School Newcastle
- Key Stage 3 winner: Asia aged 14 – Villa Real School, Consett, County Durham
Special runners up prizes were awarded to:
- Samay aged 13 – Royal Grammar School
- Riya aged 13– Royal Grammar School
- Julia aged 10, Shincliffe CE Primary School
- TJ , aged 10 – Framwellgate Primary School
- Mia , aged 11 – Framwellgate Primary School
Key Stage 3 winner: Asia aged 14 – Villa Real School, Consett, County Durham
There was a great deal of talent displayed and it was almost impossible to choose the winners, some had fantastic messages about the reasons to learn a language, others had very intricate and detailed designs. All were worthy of praise, but in the end we decided on three striking designs from,Freya, Anika and Asia.
