Beautiful poems and songs from children in North Tyneside shared as part of Mother Tongue Other Tongue

Children in North Tyneside primary schools have been taking part in our Mother Tongue Other Tongue creative writing activity and we are delighted to share some of their submissions with you.

Children from Years 5 and 6 from Percy Main, Balliol, St Peter’s, Shiremoor, Christ Church and Collingwood Primary schools have written out poems and songs in their mother tongues with drawings and an explanation of what they like these and the memories they evoke. These include writing in Ukrainian, Mandarin, Tagalog, Czech, Cantonese, Albanian, Persian and Russian. Thank you to Rashda Salamat, English as an Additional Language co-ordinator in North Tyneside for facilitating their involvement.

You can find out more about Mother Tongue Other Tongue and how to get your school or group involved here. This activity is open up to 24th March and all the children submitting writing in their home language or in a language they are learning will receive a certificate. A selection from across the North East will be included in the Mother Tongue Other Tongue 2023 anthology ebook.
