We are delighted to be able to share the ebook of North East children’s writing in their home language (Mother Tongue) or a language they are learning (Other Tongue).
Children across the region wrote creative pieces, which are orginal or remembered, including poems, stories and song lyrics in 22 languages. The ebook contains an incredible outpouring of creativity and emotion and their writing expresses their feelings about the world, about themselves, about family, love and loss, joy and lonliness, about friendship and displacement.
All the children who submitted pieces received a digital certificate and are grateful to alll the schools and children who participated.
Thanks also to Association of Language Learning and International Newcastle for supporting the project and to the staff and students of Newcastle University’s Language Resource Centre who read and reviewed the entries.
It has been such a privilege to read such beautiful pieces crafted by hand or retrieved from childhood and relived from young people across the North East – your creativity and collective experiences shared in the digital anthology provides such richness for everyone to enjoy.
