What is the activity?
We invite you to join our virtual performance of our Festival Song, ‘Love is the only River”. This will be a centrepiece of the Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages 2026 and we would like as many schools, choirs, orchestras and community groups to join in as possible.
The Festival is a celebration of the diverse languages, cultures and communities in the region and our connections to the world. We encourage children and young people to join in this song by singing, signing and/or playing. instruments and filming their performances. For those singing, the song can be sung in English or any other language and/or performed in British Sign Language (BSL). We have provided a range of translations and pronunciation guides in different languages.
Children and young people can sing all or part of the song and get involved singing in their home/community languages with their own translations.
For those with international schools links, you may wish to sing, play or perform the song with your partners overseas and in their spoken or signed language.
Videos of the performances will be submitted by the 31st March and compiled into a video of the song being sung, signed and played by children and young people across the region and their international partners.
Be inspired by performances by the region’s children and young people in the compilation videos of the 2022 Festival Song: I am a small part of the world. the 2023 Festival song: Just One World, the 2024 Festival Song: Happy and the 2025 Festival Song: What a Wonderful World
