Join Victoria Eniola from Káyìne Education for three fun pre-recorded workshops celebrating Nigerian and Yorùbá language and culture through dance, song and stories.
Schools, community schools and groups can register to access the workshops and teaching resources, for North East Primary pupils aged 7-11 and their teachers or community leaders. Resources will be available from 6th January to the end of March.
Who is it for?
These workshops are available to schools and groups in Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead and Durham. They are intended for:
- Primary School – for pupils aged 7-11 and their teachers
- Community schools and community groups with early years and primary aged children
When will it happen?
- The workshops have been pre-recorded, so can be accessed via a weblink (sent when schools register, along with teaching resources) for use anytime during the Festival from 6th January to 31st March 2026
- It will take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete a session.
What is the activity?
Victoria and Joy Eniola are educators and Founders of Káyìne Education which specialises in celebrating African and Yorùbá language and culture. They have developed three pre-recorded workshops, which can be delivered in a school or community setting with primary aged children.
These are designed to be fun, engaging and interactive. Children can watch and participate in one or all three. The pre-recorded workshops are:
- Language: Using the medium of storytelling, this workshop highlights the importance of expressing emotions whether negative or positive while also familiarising the children with Yorùbá words and fun facts about the culture. Victoria tells the story of ‘Ijapa the tortoise and the magic drum’, a Nigerian folktale.
- Teachers can play the video and introduce the activities on the worksheet, which include the meaning of words, understanding the order of the story, acting out moments in the story, using their imagination and drawing and describing their own magic drum, understanding the lesson of the story and thinking about what they can share with others
- Culture – Victoria explains about Yorùbá culture and how they celebrate with song with Victoria and Nigerian children singing, words on screen and pauses for children to sing along – with accompanying powerpoint slides with lyrics in Yorùbá and English.
- Expression – Victoria introduces some Yorùbá expressions, a dance with Nigerian children (Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes), followed by Affirmations in Yorùbá culture which teach children how to express themselves. The worksheet has activities which they can do to write and draw affirmations, as well as practicing Yorùbá expressions and affirmations and making their own
Teachers can run the recorded shows by accessing these online and showing them as a video, with resources to guide the session and fully engage children in the activities.
Children will learn about Yorùbá and Nigerian language and culture through these creative activities. Some children may have Nigerian and/or Yorùbá backgrounds and these activities will enable this to be celebrated across the school and/or community, as well as introducing children from other backgrounds to a rich and fascinating language and culture, to broaden their perspectives and empower them to find out more.
Children may wish to share what they have learned in assembly or community settings and create exhibitions about what they have learned.

- the name of this activity (Yoruba Language Culture Expression)
- your school lead contact and email address
- your school name and address
- the number of pupils who will be participating and what key stage or year group they are in
This helps us to monitor who is taking part and our reach across the region.
The teacher resources and video links will be emailed to all who register.
- You will be sent a confirmation email and links to the workshops and teaching resources – available from the start of January for use until the end of March 2026.
- If children are home schooling, the relevant school/teacher can share the link with their parents or guardians.
