French Pop Video Competition

Who is it for?

• The competition is open to all UK primary and secondary schools across the UK.
• All students in full time education in UK Primary and Secondary Schools and there are three age groups: 7-11, 12-15 and 16-18.

When will it happen?

• Schools must register by 16th March 2025 to take part.
• Videos have to be submitted by 11th May.
• In May regional juries choose regional winners who will then enter the national competition and automatically enter the national final.
• Grand national finals will be announced at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni (17 Queensberry Place, London, SW7 2DT) on 21st June World Music Day with an awards ceremony in London on 25th June.

What is the activity?

The French Pop Video Competition is a national competition organised by Francophonie UK in association with the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and supported by TV5Monde.

With the French Pop Video Competition, students get the chance to practice French in a very different and fun way. Not only do they improve their writing skills and enrich their vocabulary by creating their own lyrics, but they also practice their speaking skills while shooting the video and create lifelong memories related to their French class.

The video should be approx. 3 minutes long and must be a new original piece of work. Any style of music will be accepted provided that the song is performed in French, but NO COPYRIGHTED MUSIC OR VIDEO CAN BE USED.

Once videos have been received, regional juries will select regional winners based on the quality of the lyrics and the music, and the originality of video. Regional winners’ music videos will then enter the national competition. Grand national winners will be announced in the week of the 21st of June (World Music Day!) during an official ceremony followed by a pop concert at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni in London. Grand national winners and regional winners will receive their prize (or be sent their prize) after the ceremony.

• Any student or group of students can sing and video a new original piece of work produced in French . Any style of music will be accepted provided that the song is performed in French, but NO COPYRIGHTED MUSIC OR VIDEO CAN BE USED.
• The video (or animated clip) should be 3 minutes long and must be submitted by the student’s or group’s teacher with a completed entry form and parent consent form.
• Schools can submit as many entries as they wish (with separate forms for each)
