Fun with Felix and Franzi (KS1-2) – on demand lessons for primary schools

These fun-filled online German taster sessions with the Goethe-Institut are perfect for primary aged children eager to learn their first words of German through engaging and interactive activities. No prior knowledge of German is required.
Pupils will meet Felix and Franzi, puppets who will engage children in singing catchy songs, completing challenges and playing games. Teachers will receive free teaching resources to run the lessons in the classroom at a time convenient to them.

Who is it for?
- Primary schools (Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils)
- These on demand sessions are open to schools across the UK
- No prior knowledge of German is required to take part
When will it happen?
- These on demand lessons and can be accessed any time from 6th January 2026 and delivered at a time convenient for primary schools.
What is the activity?
These on demand lessons are delivered by experienced primary educators from the Goethe-Institut.
The fun-filled sessions are perfect for primary aged children and will be pre-recorded in a lesson format, giving teachers the option to pause the video for the children to complete speaking activities in pairs.
Children will meet Felix the frog and Franzi the duck, two enthusiastic puppets who will lead the lessons.
Felix and Franzi will engage children through a series of entertaining interactive activities, including:
- Songs
- Games
- Pairwork activities
By the end of the sessions, children will have learned simple German words and phrases and built their confidence in speaking another language, whatever language they may learn in future.
Pupils and teachers do not need to have any prior knowledge of German to get involved. The lessons are designed for non-specialist teachers, who can run the videos with accompanying resources to provide fun activities in the classroom.
Teachers will also receive links to more resources that schools can access to support German language learning in classrooms across the UK, including German clubs, song videos, lessons and teacher guides, as well as more videos for dancing and support from Goethe Institut to run German lessons in schools.

- how many pupils you expect to be involved
Links to the resources will be emailed to all registered schools from 6th January onwards.
