Durham, Northumbria and Newcastle Universities are offering a fantastic range of live workshops for schools with pupils aged 7-18 years old as part of the 2023 Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages. All the sessions take place in March, but registration is open now and schools are encouraged to book early. This is a wonderful way to introduce new languages and cultures to school pupils, but also inspire them to carry on with languages and having the opportunity to meet university language students and share their experiences.
Run by staff and Student Language Ambassadors, the activities this year include:
- Online language tasters in 23 different languages, offering insights and inspiration into diverse languages and cultures – these are arranged directly with Durham and Newcastle Universities and fit into a lesson
- In person events at Northumbria University – language taster sessions and activities and the chance for school pupils to explore the student language experience at University
- A range of creative sessions from Durham University, including creative translation, writing French poetry and exploring music, film and creative writing
