How languages changed my life:
Hi my name is Kamila and I can honestly say that languages changed my life.
I am originally from Poland, but always dreamt of attending university abroad. Because I am fluent in English, I chose the North East of England to do both my bachelor’s and my masters. Currently at Durham University, my passion for languages didn’t end with English – I am now learning German too.
I absolutely love the feeling of being able to communicate with others in their mother tongues and that allows me to immerse myself in their cultures.
Dream big and make it happen

I will be honest, being able to speak in English fluently wasn’t easy. It took me some time and I had to allow myself to drop any barrier I had in my mind saying that I couldn’t do it. But it was so worth it!
Today, my family is more than my blood relatives! I have made friends all over the place and I even got to be godmother of a beautiful little boy!
When I left Poland, I wasn’t even a sketch of what I am today. Knowing other languages allowed me to leave my comfort zone, and build myself as a better, more open-minded and stronger person.
Today, I am an independent woman, Europe is my country and the world my back garden.
There is more than one way to learn a language! After meeting people from other countries, I got involved in learning more about their cultures and languages too. I can now hold a basic conversation in Portuguese and Greek and I had the chance of teaching polish to some of my friends. That’s pretty amazing!
